Obituary of Wellington J. Blend

Wellington J. "Bus" Blend, 83, of Proctor Ave, Elkland, Pa., entered into rest on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Bus was born on Jan. 29, 1928 in the Town of Tuscarora, NY, the son of Theodore and Ella Faulkner Blend. He attended Addison schools. He entered the US Army Air Corps and served his country during World War II in Europe. On June 23, 1951, Bus and the former Carmen Forto were married at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Elkland. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Bus was employed as a weigh master at the Elkland Leather Co. until it's closing at which time he went to work for Ingersoll-Rand Co. in Painted Post where he was a lathe operator. He retired from Dresser-Rand in 1993 with 20 years of active employment. Besides working at the Rand, Bus operated the family farm as well during his adult life. He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen Blend of Elkland, his son and daughter in law, David and Donna Blend of Elkland, his grandson, Jason Blend (Amy Gill), his granddaughter, Morgan Blend (Jeremy Mann), his great granddaughters, Caterina Merrick and Payton Blend, his brothers, Theodore (Eleanor) Blend Jr. of Buckhannon, WV, Martin Blend of Landing, NJ and Collis (Cindy) Blend of Elkland, his sisters, Florence Edwards of Elkland, Ella Kipferl of Pine City, Elma (Harry) Hornbrook of Elmira, Wanda Jankowski of Addison and Wilma (Miles) Wisler of Tioga, Pa., his brother in law, Fred Forto and sister in law, Teresa Forto, both of Elkland, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bus was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Blend and his sisters, Edna Tunison, Vera Knowles and Dorothy Doland. Friends called on Tuesday, July 5 at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services followed there at 3:00 PM with Rev. John Kita officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Elkland. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc. or charity of one's choice. Service: Tuesday, July 5, 2011 3:00 PM H.P. Smith & Son, Inc.
