Obituary of Mabel I. French

HORNELL: Mabel I. French, 88, formerly of Hornell passed away Thursday (April 5, 2012) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath where she had resided since 1998. Mabel was born July 1, 1923 in the town of Big Flats, to Ernest and Emma (Allen) Markle. On June 17, 1944 she married Allan Waight who predeceased her in 1986. On December 25, 1965 she married Arthur French who predeceased her in 1991. In addition to her husbands she was also predeceased by a son Larry Waight, two sisters, Mary Conte and Ida Goemere, and a brother Arthur Markle. Mabel had been a home maker who also worked outside her home as a waitress and hospital custodial services at the former Bethesda Hospital in North Hornell. She loved to sing and Bible studies were very dear to her. Mabel is survived by a two sons: Donald Waight and Ray Waight both of Alameda, Calif., one daughter Norva (Gerald) Beyea of Canisteo, 7 grand children, 10 great grand children and nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to funeral and committal services Monday at 11:00 AM at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, with the Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats. Memorial contributions may be made in Mabel's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, N.Y. 14620, Attn. Development Office. Service: Monday, April 9, 2012 11:00 AM H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Canisteo, N.Y.
