GREENWOOD: Walter W. “Walt” Jackson, Jr. 86 of Rock Creek Rd. passed away Saturday (Jan. 21, 2017) at Olean General Hospital following an extended illness. Walt was born December 11, 1930 in the town of Cameron to Walter W. and Cora Mae (Horton) Jackson. On July 7, 1951 in Greenwood, he married the former Janet Lamphier who survives and resides in Greenwood. Walt was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and Corning Glass Apprentice Program He worked for Corning Glass Works as a tool machinist and eventually into management retiring in 1987 after 37 years of employment. He served 3 years in the National Guards at Corning where he was company clerk. Walt was very civic minded being a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church for many years, past member of the School Board at Greenwood Central School. He was also a member of the Greenwood Sentinel Lodge #151 F&AM where he was a past master and secretary for many years and was also a member of the Steuben County Past Masters Association. Walt was a member and past Patron of the Greenwood O.E.S., a trustee with the Greenwood Cemetery Association and past Boy Scout Master. Walt and Janet were well traveled in visiting all but one state in the union as well as traveling to England, Scotland and Wales. He was also an avid radio- controlled airplane enthusiast and was a member of the STAR radio controlled airplane club of Cuba. In addition to his wife Janet, to whom he was married to for 65 years, Walt is survived by a daughter: Starla (Dana) Williams of Greenwood, two grandchildren: Amanda (Chris) Fronzak and Jonathan (Sarah) Williams, four great grandchildren: Cole Fronzak, identical twins Adeline and Bella Williams and Alec Jex. Walt is also survived by six half- brothers; Milford Jackson of Lindley, Wilby (Ann) Jackson of bath and Frankie Jackson of Elkland, Pa. also Warren (Brenda) Cline of Addison and Leo (Lynn) Cline and Melvin (Lynn) Cline all of Hornell. Four half- sisters: Judy Percival of Bath, Kay (Glenn) Vosburg of Risingville, Bonnie Compton and Jeanne Gardiner both of Bath and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister: Pauline O’Dell Wilcox, half-sisters: Joyce Dineen and Neva Gardiner and a half-brother: Edward Jackson The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Saturday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home. 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where a Masonic service will take place at 7:45 pm followed by a memorial service and celebration of Walt’s life at 8:00 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood, NY.
