Obituary of Paul E. Tillinghast

Paul E. “Red” Tillinghast, 85, of Beck Drive, Cameron, NY, passed away at home on Friday, January 27, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lawrenceville, PA on February 26, 1931, he was the son of the late Thomas and Florence (Kilburn) Tillinghast Sr. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. Following his military service, Red married the former Helen Westcott. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1998. Red worked for various farmers in the area with many years employed by Terry Painter in Brookfield, PA. He also was employed by Learn’s Feed Service in Nelson, PA for a period. He loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing and cook outs. Red loved to go for leisurely rides in the area with family and friends. Surviving are his sons, Frederick Tillinghast of Bogard, MO, Paul (Audrey) Tillinghast Jr. of North Carolina and Michael Tillinghast of Gloversville, NY, his daughters, Teresa Root of Woodhull, Paula (Jim) Clark of Franklinville, PA, Lisa Allen (Bub Farnsworth) of Osceola, PA, Kathy Bacon of Hornell, Polly Armstrong (Don Landon) of Hornell, Lindy (Art) Goodier of Osceola, Cindy (Joe) Ribble of Woodhull, Sue Kendall (Robert Webster) of Tioga, PA and Betsy Tillinghast of Cameron, 25 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, his sisters, Martha Ostrander of Troy, PA and Patty Whidden of Westfield, PA, many nieces and nephews and his beloved canine companions, Lassie, Sassie and Baby Girl. Besides his wife Helen, Red was predeceased by his son, Willie Tillinghast, his grandchildren, Anthony Tillinghast, Tina Tillinghast and Jennifer Clark and by his dear friend, Bernice Tubbs. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31 at 1 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Rev. Robert Treat will officiate. Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery, Brookfield, PA. The family requests that donations be directed to the funeral home to help with final expenses
