Obituary of Ellis D. Spencer

Ellis D. Spencer, 85, of Addison Back Road, Addison, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Ellis was born in Elkland, PA on Nov. 16, 1931, the son of the late Tracy and Emily (Clark) Spencer. He was raised in Elkland and attended school there. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving from 1952 to 1954 and attaining the rank of Sergeant. On Dec. 8, 1956, he married the former Bernice E. Gardner. Bernice preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2007. Ellis worked for many years as an equipment operator for Hakes Construction in Painted Post. He later became a certified overload transport escort, doing this work until age 80. Ellis was a charter member of the Addison Eagles Aerie in Addison and has remained very active since its’ formation. He was a former Aerie President, Secretary and Trustee. Ellis also served a term as President of the New York State Eagles Organization. He was also a member of the Campbell American Legion Post. He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Kelley and Timothy Dorshimer of Addison. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 from 3 to 5 PM at the Addison Eagles Club, St. Rte. 417, Addison. Burial will be made in Addison Rural Cemetery, Addison, NY.
