Frederick R. Conklin, 80, of Grove St., Addison, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Florida Hospital – Zephyrhills after falling ill at his winter home in Zephyrhills, FL. Born in Cochecton, Sullivan County, NY on June 30, 1936, Fred was the son of the late Frederick and Esther Pozzi Conklin. He grew up in Addison and attended school there. On July 14, 1957, he married the former Beverly M. Smith. Bev survives. Fred was employed for 13 years at the former A&P Grocery in Addison. He then began a nearly 30 year career as a security guard for Corning Inc. Fred was a member of the Middletown Historical Society and a former member of the Addison Ambulance Corp. An avid bowler, he bowled in the Sunshine League locally and also bowled when in Florida. He enjoyed watching Bonanza reruns as well as The Price is Right on TV. Fred and Bev took great pride in their show cars, a 1931 Model A Ford and their 1964 ½ Ford Mustang. They were regular participants in parades throughout the area with their cars. Surviving Fred is his wife of nearly 60 years, Beverly, at home, his son, Frederick Conklin Jr. of Addison, His daughter, Sharon (Kerry) Rice of Addison, grandchildren, Bryan (Kelley) Conklin of Woodhull, Jennifer Rice (Brian Fey) of Caton and Melanie (Bill) Girouard of Montour Falls, great grandchildren, Emma Tanner, Colby Tanner, Madison Hansen, Carley Hansen, Katherine Conklin, Chase Conklin and Aiden Fey, his sister, Joan (Steve) Hofstetter of Corning, his brother in law, Herb (Irene) Smith of Cameron, his sister in law, Dorothy Yarka of Cameron, his beloved canine companion, Molly, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Conklin and Ronald Conklin. Friends may call on Wednesday, Mar 22 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Fred’s funeral service will be held there on Thursday at 2 PM with Rev. Scott Towner officiating. Burial will be in Addison Rural Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Middletown Historical Society or the Addison Fire Dept. and Ambulance Corp.
