Rochester, NY | Donald D. Panzik, 76, of Ballantyne Road, Rochester (Chili), passed away on Saturday evening, July 22, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Johnson City, NY on Dec. 21, 1940, Don was the son of the late Rudolph and Lillian (Rodeghiero) Panzik. He was a 1959 graduate of Haverling High School in Bath, NY.

Following high school, Don served in the US Navy from Aug. 1959 until Feb. 1964. After leaving the military he earned an Associates Degree from Corning Community College in 1967. On Nov. 25, 1967, he married the former Janet Welty in Jasper, NY. He attended the University of Rochester where he graduated in 1972 with a Bachelors Degree.  While attending school at the University of Rochester, Don worked at Strong Memorial Hospital as an anesthesiology technician.

After receiving his degree for the U of R, Don was employed by the Veterans Administration for many years where he worked in respiratory/inhalation departments at VA Medical Centers in Bath, Canandaigua and Batavia. After his retirement from the VA, Don operated an auto repair business in Canandaigua.

A great historian, Don was particularly intrigued and very knowledgeable in the history of World War II. He was also a very avid and able fisherman.

Surviving is his wife, Janet Panzik of Rochester, his brothers, Robert Panzik of Henrietta, NY and Jim and wife Joanne Panzik of New Port, NC, his sister, Audrey Yackoff and husband Murray of W. Henrietta, NY, several nieces and nephews and his sisters in law, Mary Friends of Ontario, NY, Marilyn and husband Lewis Dickerson of Wichita Falls, TX and Patricia Button of Bath, NY.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 27 at 2 pm at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Bath, NY with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
