OLDSMAR, FL/JASPER, NY: DAVID W. MAYO, 92, FORMERLY OF JASPER PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30, 2017 IN PALM HARBOR, FL

BORN DECEMBER 14, 1924 IN WOODHULL, NY, SON OF T. WAYNE MAYO (ETHEL) AND ELCY (DRAKE) BURR (RAYMOND).  ON DECEMBER 19, 1945 HE MARRIED ELIZABETH (BETTY) SAVEY, WHO SURVIVES ALONG WITH THEIR PUP, MAGGIE AND RESIDE IN OLDSMAR, FL. HE IS ALSO SURVIVED BY SONS, JOHN (MARILYN) MAYO OF WHITIER, NC; MICHAEL (KIMBERLY) MAYO OF TAMPA, FL AND DAUGHTER, MARY LOU (MARK) JACKSON OF PALM HARBOR, FL.  GRANDCHILDREN; TODD (SHERI) MAYO, COLUMBUS, OH, ADAM (BRITTNEY) JACKSON, WAHIAWA, HI, AMANDA (GREGG) JONES,KNOXVILLE, TN; ALICIA (CHRIS) BENNETT, MIAMI, FL; TAYLOR MAYO, FALL RIVER, MA AND VICTORIA MAYO, TAMPA, FL; GREAT-GRANDSONS ALEX, BRAEDON, EWAN, RHYS AND NOEL AND GREAT-GRANDDAUGHTER CLAIRE.

DAVID IS ALSO SURVIVED BY A BROTHER DEO (RUTH) MAYO, CANISTEO, NY; SISTER NORMA MISEWICZ, COTTONWOOD, AZ; PAULINE GOTTSCHALK, SKANEATELES, NY; BROTHER-IN-LAW JAKE SCHWITZER, WAYLAND, NY; SEVERAL NEICES AND NEPHEWS.

ALONG WITH PARENTS HE IS PREDECEASED BY HIS GRANDDAUGHTER, TRICIA HENDRIX, BROTHERS, DARREN (JOSEPHINE) MAYO; HARVEY (AUDREY) MAYO; HARLEY (PHYLLIS) MAYO; SISTER RUTH (TED) DARMSTADT; SISTER- IN- LAW JEAN SCHWITZER; BROTHERS-IN-LAW; DONALD (LORETTA) SAVEY, CHARLES (ELAINE) SAVEY, RAYMOND GOTTSCHALK AND DICK MISEWICZ.

DAVID WAS A GRADUATE OF JASPER CENTRAL SCHOOL CLASS OF 1943 AND AT ONE TIME WAS A TRUSTEE AND MEMBER OF THE FEDERATED CHURCH. HE WAS A FORMER VOLUNTEER FIREMAN AND AN HONORARY MEMBER OF THE JASPER FFA. HE ALSO SERVED IN THE NATIONAL GUARD IN HORNELL DURING WWII.

HE OWNED HIS OWN TRUCKING BUSINESS HAULING CANNED MILK TO THE ADDISON PLANT ALONG WITH OTHER TRUCKING JOBS AFTERNOONS AND EVENINGS UNTIL LATE 1950’S WHEN HE WENT TO WORK FOR G.L.F. DRIVING TRUCK AND EVENTUALLY MOVING ON TO BE A FARM SALESPERSON FOR G.L.F./AGWAY, WHERE HE RETIRED.

 WHEN HE AND BETTY MOVED TO FLORIDA IN 1981 HE DROVE TRUCK FOR STANSELL’S TRUCKING, THEN STARTED WORKING AT PUBLIX RETAIL GROCERY.  HE LOVED EVERY DAY OF HIS WORK AT PUBLIX AND RELUCTANTLY RETIRED JUST 2 WEEKS SHY OF HIS 90TH BIRTHDAY.  HE AND BETTY ATTEND COUNTRYSIDE BAPTIST CHURCH IN CLEARWATER AND HAVE MADE MANY FRIENDS THERE.

IN LEIU OF FLOWERS THE FAMILY REQUESTS DONATIONS IN DAVID’S MEMORY BE MADE TO SUNCOAST HOSPICE, 164 W. LAKE RD, PALM HARBOR, FL  34684.  MANY THANKS TO ALL THE HOSPICE PERSONNEL WHO HAVE TOUCHED OUR LIVES THESE PAST FEW MONTHS.

AT DAVID’S REQUEST, THERE WILL BE NO CALLING HRS. A GRAVESIDE SERIVCE WILL TAKE PLACE AT 11:00 AM ON MONDAY, SEPT. 4  AT THE JASPER CEMETERY WITH REV. BRIAN DIFFENBACHER OFFICIATING. RECEPTION TO FOLLOW SERVICE AT THE WOODHULL METHODIST CHURCH, ALL ARE WELCOME.
