David W. Scouten Sr., 84, of Caton, NY, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022 in the emergency department of Corning Hospital. Born in Corning on January 16, 1938, David was the son of the late Watson and Clarabelle Marlatt Scouten. He attended school in the Caton rural schools. David was a longtime self employed beef and stock farmer and cattle hauler. He established Scouten Auctions 50 years ago as a sideline business, running estate and consignment sales, and it continues under the operation of his son. As a young man, David hosted pony pulls and Round & Square dances at his Caton farm. He bought and sold horses and pursued various other projects to help make ends meet. In later years, he enjoyed visiting the many casinos and horse tracks in the region. David is survived by his children, David Scouten (Justine Sutton) and Brian (Tracy) Scouten, of Caton, Russ (May) Inman of Florida, Deedra Inman of Louisiana and Tim (lise) Inman of Oklahoma, his grandchildren, Becky (Jamie) Cates, Sara Scouten, Kyle Asbury, Samantha Renee Scouten, Jaired Sutton, Logan Ayres, David Scouten and Daniel Scouten, great grandchildren, Jullian, Makella, Axl and Mason and his sister-in-law, Linda Scouten. His brother Lawrence “Chaunce” Scouten preceded David in death. There will be no services at this time. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
