Obituary of Gary L. Baker I
Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary Baker, 73, of Rathbone, NY, passed away at home on January 30, 2025. Gary was born in Bath, NY, on November 16, 1951. He attended Jasper Central School and enjoyed a long career at Dresser Rand.
Gary was a devoted dad, grandpa, uncle, and brother. His greatest joy came from helping those he loved. If he knew there was a need, he was the first one there to help. His hobbies revolved around his family. He spent his days working on vehicles, mowing lawns, planting and harvesting pumpkins and sweet corn, working in the hay fields, and attending birthday parties and special events for his grandkids. He never missed a Saturday at Katherine’s, drinking coffee and searching for goodies.
Gary was a muscle car enthusiast, with a special love for Mopars. In his youth, he never turned down an opportunity to push the limits of speed and safety. His grandkids loved to listen to stories about the cars he owned and the many races he and his friends challenged each other to. They always had the biggest smile when Grandpa pulled up in his latest hot rod.
Gary will be cherished and missed by all who loved him. He leaves behind his children: Gary (Christina) Baker II, Mike Baker, Jamie (Marty) Wheeler, Robert (Amanda) Baker, and Kim (John) Nichols. His grandchildren: Bradley Baker, Brooke (Jarrett) Gill, Carrigan Snyder, Paige Snyder, Collin Baker, Carlie Baker, Caelyn Baker, Zane Wheeler, Reagan Wheeler, Roman Wheeler, David Baker, Matthew Baker, Jackson Nichols, and Lauren Nichols. His great grandchildren: Wyatt Gill, Carter Watkins, and Owen Watkins. His siblings: Katherine Quick, James Young, and Debbie Reisman. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Gary was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Young, his father, Gordon Baker, and siblings, Gordon, Dorothy, Karen, Ronnie, Bruce, Louis, and Eddie.
