Obituary of Edmond R. Warriner

CANISTEO: Edmond R. “Ed” Warriner, 96, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, April 21, 2025 at his home surrounded by the love and care of his wife and family after a brief illness.
Ed was life-long resident of the Canisteo Valley where he raised his family and who owned and operated Ed-Lo-Acres Farm in the town of Canisteo. He was born March 16, 1929 in Hornell to the late Howard B. and Lillian (VanDuren) Warriner. On August 14, 1949 in Canisteo, he married the former Lois I. Bettinger who survives and resides in Canisteo.
In 1946 Ed took a bus to Mason City, Iowa, where he learned to become an auctioneer. He very much enjoyed the trip riding the bus. From April 1967 Ed moved his family to Silver Lake, NY where he held the position as superintendent and business manager of Camp Asbury until May of 1971, then returning to the family farm. In addition to dairy farming, Ed acquired his real estate license and was a real estate agent for Gordon Scott Reality and Winter’s Real Estate. He also sold farm equipment for a time at Addison Farm Supply in Addison, NY.
Ed was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo, where he served as a board member and trustee for several years. After retirement, he continued to work with both sons on the respective farms. Above all and foremost, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends on the back porch and patio.
In addition to his wife of 75 years, Lois (Bettinger) Warriner of Canisteo, Ed is survived by sons: Carl (Lisa) Warriner of Hornell and Dean (Shelly)Warriner of Canisteo and daughter Barbara (James) Graham, of Romulus, 8 wonderful grandchildren, Lois Jane Graham, John Graham, Matthew Graham, Bridgett Freelove, Alan Warriner, Kevin Ostberg Warriner, Robert Warriner DeWeese and Ryan Warriner DeWeese, 11 great grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.
He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Alice Jean Warriner, Marilyn Warriner, Arnet Warriner and Lorraine Warriner. Ed was predeceased by a daughter Patricia Warriner, a great grandson Isaac Warriner, four brothers, David, Howard, Jack and Richard Warriner and a sister Phyllis Bolehnke.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. A funeral service will take place Saturday, April 26 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo. Burial will be in Bennetts Creek Cemetery.
