Obituary of Pearl Knight

Gertrude Pearl Knight, 87, of Maple St. Canisteo, passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Born in Dansville, Pearl was the daughter of Benjamin and Lavinia Gordon. Raised in Dansville, she was a 1957 graduate of Dansville High School. Pearl worked a few years for GC Murphy and Col. In Dansville, part-time while in high school and full time for a couple years following school. She worked there prior to meeting the love of her life, Archie William Knight, and they were wed on March 7, 1959. She was a homemaker and they had four beautiful children together. Pearl and Archie enjoyed a wonderful union for 35 years until Archie passed away in June of 1994. Pearl was an avid reader and enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She loved her many cat pets over the years but especially loved looking after her many grandchildren. Pearl is survived by her children and their spouses, James Knight of Canisteo, Sharon and George Turner of Canisteo, Karen and William Sutfin of Hornell and Kelly and Robert Bird of Sayre, Pa., 18 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Archie, Pearl was preceded in death by her infant sons, Robert Knight and Daniel Knight, her grandsons, Jacob and Nick, her great grandchildren, Brandy, Dennis and Grace and her brothers, Ben Gordon and Lloyd Gordon. Friends and family may call on Monday, May 5 from 12 pm to 2 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St. Canisteo. Funeral services will follow there at 2 pm with Rev. Natalie Churchman officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo. Arrangements by H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
