Obituary of John E. Steen, Jr.

CANISTEO: John E. Steen, Jr., 70, of Eighth St. passed away peacefully Monday, May 26, 2025 at Maple City Rehab and Nursing Facility in Hornell after an extended illness. John was born March 13, 1955 in Furstenfeldbruck AFB in Germany to the late John E. and Doris J. (Greene) Steen, Sr. On June 23, 1990 in the village of Canisteo he married the former Victoria Flint who survives and resides in Canisteo. John was a veteran of the US Air Force proudly surviving our country from 1974-78. He was a former police officer serving the area in Bath, Corning Alfred and Canisteo. He eventually worked and retired from the Groveland Correctional Facility in 2017. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with family and friends. His greatest passion was fishing and enjoyed many memorable trips to Honeoye Lake with his son Dylan and friend Rodney Burger. He was also a big Buffalo Bills and NY Yankees fan. In addition to his wife Vicky, John is survived by a daughter Shannon (Dan) Miller of Dansville, son Dylan Steen of Hornell, grandchildren Paisley and Easton Steen. One brother, Douglas (Krista) Steen of Cloquet, MN, two sisters, Deborah Aldridge of Blacklick, Ohio and Diane Kidder of TN. as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Patrick Steen. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 5th, 4:00-6:00 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo where a memorial service will take place immediately following calling hours at 6:00 pm. Final interment will be Friday, June 6th, 10:00 am at Bath National Cemetery with military honors.
