With no reference to politics whatsoever, my high school years involved a village, and Mike’s Mom was a key piece of it. Her and Carol Lucas adopted numerous high school boys after school before practice, over weekends, and on roadtrips throughout the early 1990’s. Karen opened her home, her huge chest freezer of frozen pizzas, and upstairs loft of their beautiful log cabin home to at least dozen growing boys. She was kind but firm, just as the other Moms in my life were. I’m not sure I’d be the same person if she hadn’t been in my life. Celebrate eternity with the Almighty Karen, you’ve earned it.

Karen has been my friend for over 65 years, we have had so many adventures together! She was my rock and always there for me through thick and thin. There is a hole in my heart, but, I rejoice knowing where she is and that she is no longer in pain.
love you friend!

Karen was the only person who could keep my 2 dogs and not have them whine and bark from separation anxiety.
Einstein ("Einy" by Karen) would go crazy to get out of the car and get to Karen.
She was always smiling and positive about everything.
I loved the fact that she always said what she thought without hesitation.
Made me laugh out loud many times.
I am so glad to have known her.
Sending prayers and hugs to all the family. Cherish all the memories of Karen and know that you will be with her again some day.
She'll probably have things a lot more organized up there till the rest of us get there!

Q: How did you meet Karen?
A: I got to know Karen when she began attending Celebrate Recovery. Her wisdom and openness was such a refreshing help to the group. We quickly became friends and shared a wonderful trip together visiting and touring Germany with my sister and brother in law, a time I will cherish. Karen was always ready to help whenever asked. I'll miss our breakfast get togethers. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Amy, Wally, Mike and all. Cheryl Edgcomb

I have such warm, witty, wonderful memories from being Karen's pastor at Austinburg UMC over 20 years ago. One stands out: As a budding partnership between local churches and the Tioga County HHS office brought a large, suddenly orphaned family to our churches' attention, Karen immediately sprang into action, offering horseback riding experiences for the traumatized kiddos and bringing huge smiles to their faces (not least of all as she humorously put me on the horse with the most, er, "spirit," to everyone's amusement and my hilarious humiliation). I picture her with Bud and Ava on God's front porch right now, raising a holy ruckus. Much love and many prayers for Wally, Mike, Amy, and your big beautiful families, including all her cousins, from the Cherrys.

I was Blessed to meet Karen at Ruskin Methodist Church in a Monday morning group. There was something very special in Karen and we just clicked, a spiritual bond. Her authentic gift of giving to others resonated with me as our views on helping others was very similar. Karen was one of those people that gave her love of God and helping others freely. I consider myself very fortunate to have known her. Karen, I know that God has a special job for you in Heaven. Wally, you and the family are in my prayers.
