Obituary of Wilda A. Carpenter

Wilda A. Carpenter, 72, of Cty. Rte. 5, Tuscarora, NY, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Bampa’s House in Corning.
Born in Wellsboro, PA on January 8, 1953, Wilda was the daughter of the late William and Leda Josephine (Wales) Montgomery. She was a graduate of Wellsboro High School. She earned an Associate’s Degree from Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA.
On September 15, 1973, Wilda and Charles E. Carpenter Jr. were married in Marsh Creek, PA. Chuck preceded her in death on May 28, 2021.
Wilda retired as a certified teacher assistant from the Addison Central School District. She worked for 19 years in special education and an additional 9 years in pre K for 28 years of service.
Wilda was a fierce advocate for children reflected in the various activities that she chose to pursue. For many years Wilda was a strong supporter of Samaritan’s Purse children’s shoe box program, contributing several shoe boxes every year to the annual Christmas campaign. She had been a volunteer for Toys for Tots and had taught Sunday school for many years and had also assisted with vacation bible school programs in several churches over the years.
She enjoyed TV with two shows being her favorites, “Naked and Afraid” and “Bobby Flay”.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Carpenter of Longwood, Fl and Joan and Joe Goodman of Painted Post, her grandchildren, Alyssa (Jurrell) Alston, Daniel Ryan, Ben Goodman and Alex Goodman, her sisters, Carolyn Conte, Diane (Kenny) Kanaut, Donna (Brian) Sergeant and Penny (Todd) Root along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Chuck and her parents, Wilda was predeceased by their son, Jeffrey Carpenter on Sept. 30, 2006 and her siblings, Betty Moore, Thomas Montgomery, Keith Montgomery and Daisy Smith.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 27 from 2 to 4 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. A memorial service will follow there at 4 pm with Mr. Chris Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
