I was fortunate to be able to deliver Meals on Wheels to Mr. Hackert for a number of years. He was a favorite call as he always met me at his door with a quip on the weather, a lite joke on a current event or saying 'I'll see you in August' on my last delivery in July - I always left with a smile.
It's people like him that make the delivery of a daily meal truly enjoyable and rewarding.
I'll miss home but he will always be in my heart. ❤️ Alison Merkl

I very much enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels to Jim every week for the past three and a half years. We always chatted a bit, especially reviewing the most recent Bills game during football season. He was a good fellow and sharp as a tack to the end. Deepest condolences to the family.

Such great memories of uncle Jim and Aunt Lottie. Especially when Allison was younger and they cared for her while I worked. We'll never forgot them. Loved them both and miss them! Our sincere condolences to our cousins.

I'm sorry to see Mr. Heckart go. I appreciate my recent 2014 visit with him in his Woodycrest home, along with Judy & Ron. His memory amazed me, as he reminded me of things such as the "porch calling" my friend Jim (his son) & I would do - Elmo & Elaine, or Jim would do a trombone call and I'd respond with a trumpet call from our porches and he had other memories I'd forgotten! Jim & I spent countless nights sleeping out in Heckart's back yard, trying not to do too much mischief in the neighborhood at night. Yes, the Heckart home was a centerplace for neighborhood activity, where the O'Malias and Swishers and McFarlands and several other families would gather. I also remember once going to a family reunion in Canisteo with the family. My condolences go out to the family for your loss.
