PRATTSBURGH: Richard Joseph “Rick” Cardman, Jr., 66, of Prattsburgh, formerly of Canisteo passed away July 25, 2025 at Highland Hospital following a brief illness. Rick was born December 9, 1958 in Elkland, Pa. to the late Richard J. and Martha J. (Merritt) Cardman. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1977, where he excelled in football and track during his high school years. He was a member of the 1975 Canisteo Redskins football team that was inducted into the Canisteo Hall of Fame in the fall of 2025. Following graduation, Rick attended Alfred University. Rick retired in 2020 from the Highway Maintenance Department for NYSDOT in Kanona. He was also a gifted carpenter and enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson around the Finger Lakes region. Rick will be remembered for his sense of humor, which will be missed Rick is survived by a son, Logan Cardman, his friend and former wife Kelly (Johnson) Green and an uncle Richard Merritt. A time of remembrance and fellowship for family and friends will be Thursday September 4, 2025 from 6-8 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. Final interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Rick’s name may be made to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd. Hornell, NY 14843. Arrangements are in care of H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, NY.
