Obituary of Stewart J. Allen

LINDLEY: Stewart J. “Butch” Allen, 76, passed away Monday August 25, 2025, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. Butch was born June 10, 1949 in Hornell, to the late Stewart and Helen (Colegrove) Allen. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps serving our country proudly during the Vietnam era from 1968-71 with two tours of Vietnam. He was honorably discharged reaching the rank of Sergeant. After his service he worked at Camp Lejeune in NC as a motor transport operator for several years. Outside of work, Butch enjoyed camping, hunting, playing a good hand of cards and any family board game. In his younger years he was very involved in NASCAR Truck series racing as a team mechanic. Having a pleasant smile and great sense of humor, Butch’s presence will be greatly missed. He is survived by the love of his life Lorraine McNeil of Lindley, his children Angela Allen of TX, Alicia Miller (Ronald Hadsell Jr.) of Almond, Brandon (Melissa) Mehlenbacher of Hornell, Megan Allen of NC, and Brittney Allen of NC - his siblings, Erwin (Elaine) Allen, Jeanette Stock, Paula (Larry) Kinney, Susanne (Steve) Turner, Waneta (Steve Dutschke) Crosby, Ethan (Patricia) Allen and Alan “AJ” (Joanne Ordiway) Allen, many, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and several close friends. He was predeceased by a son Stewart “Skip” Sanford, a sister Elaine Tracy and brothers Michael and David Allen. At Butch’s request, there will be no calling hours or service at this time. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Greenwood American Legion, Main St. Greenwood, NY.
