HARTSVILLE: Robert F. “Bob” Charles, 81, of Ashbaugh Hill Rd. passed away peacefully at his home September 6, 2025 with the love and care of his family by his side. Bob was born May 21, 1944 in Hornell to the late William T. and Marjorie A. (Stone) Charles. On December 21, 1963 in Canisteo he married the former Betty Lou Ray, who survives and resides in Hartsville. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and had been employed with the former SKF, Co. in Hornell for 23 years. After the closing of SKF, he furthered his employment with 20 years as a quality control inspector with the TTA, Co. in Hornell. Outside of work, Bob enjoyed his time with his grandchildren in the outdoors where they enjoyed many good adventures together. He was a member of the Hornell Moose Club and the Hornell Association. In addition to his wife Betty Lou, Bob is survived by a son Robert (Sherry) Charles of Hartsville, a daughter Colleen Charles (Tammie Hayes) of North Myrtle Beach, SC. 7 grandchildren, Miranda Charles (Brian Shumm), Troy, Dylan and Kelsy Charles, Cassie and Randon Cornell and Charles Hayes. 4 great grandchildren, Liam and Liara Houghtaling, Braxton Shumm and Jackson Cornell. He is also survived by two sisters, Rita Stewart of Canisteo and Beverly (Larry) Powers of Rochester and good friends Tim Lachusa and James McNellis both of Hornell. He was predeceased by a twin brother William F. “Bill” Charles, brother Donald Charles, sisters Sandra Hayner and Janet “Squeak” Arno. There will be no calling hours or services. Final interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
