Obituary of Robert C. Rude

Robert C. Rude, 91, of Palmyra, NY, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua following failing health.
Born in Jasper, NY on November 16, 1933, Robert was the son of the late Harold and Clara Horton Rude. In his youth, he attended Woodhull High School. On December 19, 1954, Robert and the former Edith “Edie” Sprague were married in Corning.
Robert was a farmer as a young man but in 1962, he and Edie moved to Rochester. He worked briefly in a sweater factory in Rochester before starting a 27-year career at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester where he was employed as a plumber. In 1965, they moved to Rushville where they made their home together. They had recently moved into their daughter’s home in Palmyra.
Robert and Edie loved to travel, having visited all 50 states over the years. Their normal mode of travel was with a camper in tow, making their way around the country visiting countless campgrounds. Robert loved the outdoors and besides camping, enjoyed deer hunting and snowmobiling. He enjoyed woodworking and has built many bird houses and jewelry boxes which he shared with others. At the age of 75, Robert learned to play guitar.
Besides Edie Rude, Robert’s wife of over 70 years, he is survived by his daughters and their spouses, Mary and Roland Lyndaker of Palmyra, Roberta and Charlie Austin of Waterloo and Arloween and Bruce Corwin of Victor, his grandchildren, Jason (Meredith) Galens, Charlie (Elena) Austin, William (Tammy) Austin, Elizabeth Kuhn, Andrew Kuhn, William Corwin, Taylyn Corwin and Brock Corwin, 9 great grandchildren, his sister, Thelma Neff of Weeki Wachee, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Clara, his brothers, Harold Rude Jr., Hiram Rude, Russell Rude and Elwood Rude and his sister, Arloween Cody.
There will be no services at this time. Robert will be laid to rest in Woodhull Cemetery.
