Carl E. Guild, 81, of Woodhull, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Carl was born in Hornell on January 16, 1944, the son of the late Edwin H. and Florence I. Spencer Guild. He was a graduate of Jasper Central School. Carl was an auto body repairman and mechanic most of his life, beginning with Guild’s Garage in Woodhull which he operated for several years. He moved to Florida in 1984 and while there he was employed by two auto dealerships as a body repairman. He also was a truck driver hauling for a large nursery, delivering landscape along the east coast. In 2005, Carl returned home to Woodhull where he again operated a body shop prior to retiring. Carl was a huge fan of dirt stock car racing. As a young man, he was a driver and owner competing on area tracks in the Northeast. He followed friends in Florida who shared the same interests. When he returned to New York, Carl was a huge supporter of his son Tim’s racing endeavors as well as nephews Mike and Stacy Jackson and many other friends in the racing world. He was a common sight on the top row of the bleachers of Woodhull Raceway for every event there. Carl his survived by his children, Carl “Butch” and Edie Guild of Sierra Vista, AZ and their children, Nicolle (Rene) Quintanilla and Jessica Guild, Tim and Gwenna Guild of Cameron Mills and children, Evan Guild and Annette Guild and Seresa and Steve Cruz of Oviedo, FL and children, Mason Cruz, Maeson Vallee and Raegen Vallee, great grandchildren, Landon, James and Aiden, his siblings, Millard Guild of Cameron Mills, Betty (Jack) Bossard of Howard and Don (Marlene) Guild of Cameron, his sister-in-law, Sue Guild of Arkport and several nieces, nephews and extended race car family. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 7 from 5 to 7 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. A memorial service will follow there at 7 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
