Joseph William Hannacker Sr., age 81, of State Rte 417, Town of Tuscarora, passed away peacefully at his home after a long battle with cancer on Monday, December 29, 2025. Joseph was born on May 5, 1944 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Joe was the son of the late Joseph W. and Marian C. (Ilg) Hannacker. He was raised in Margate, New Jersey. He attended school at St. Anthony of Padua Minor Seminary and then graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1964 where he was outstanding in basketball, swimming, and gymnastics. Throughout his life he loved time near the water, swimming in the bay, fishing, boating, relaxing on the beach, riding his Harley motorcycle, boxing, guns, four wheeling, camping, and hanging out with his friends. Joe's career was being a tractor trailer driver. In 1986 him and his wife Linda opened up their own trucking business named J&L Trucking where Joe purchased his first dump truck in Brigantine, New Jersey. In 1995 Joe and his family moved to Addison New York. Joe continued to work for various trucking company's where he then retired in 2014 from Usher Transport delivering fuel for trains at Norfolk Southern. Joe was a hardworking person who had a quick witted sense of humor. He really loved to stir the pot to get people riled up and he was always the life of the party. He was the person if you needed anything all you had to do was call and he was there. He truly was a remarkable person that left an impression wherever he went. Surviving is his beautiful wife of 43 years, Linda McAllister Hannacker, his children, Jolyn Hannacker of Corning, Joseph Hannacker Jr. of Addison, Katherine (Jacob) Gill of Prattsburgh, Michele (Shawn) Ryan of Hershey, PA, and Melissa Hannacker of Souderton, PA. His beloved grandchildren, Caliyeagh, Jasper, Braylyx, Augustus, Genevieve, Cameron, Rebekah, Jacob, Caleb and Olivia. His sister, Mary Harper of Tucson, AZ, and his nephew Michael (Therez) Shaffer of Painted Post, his canine companions Oreo and Ellie Mae, and dear friends, Robin, Doc, Butch, Scott, and along with many others he had throughout his life. Besides his parents, Joseph and Marian Hannacker, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer Hannacker in 1999. Following Joe's wishes there will be no services at this time. The family will have a celebration of life at a later date. The family is being assisted by the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
