Obituary of Alberta V. Potter

CANISTEO: Alberta V. Potter, 86, of Cty. Rte. 30 Swale Rd. passed away Monday, December 29, 2025 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville following a brief illness. Alberta had worked at Kraft Foods for 14 years and as a cashier at Walmart retiring after 19 years of employment and had attended the Free Methodist Church in Hornell. She was born March 30, 1939 in the town of Lindley to the late Francis and Louise (Vanzile) Rice. On October 21, 1961 in Knoxville, PA she married Francis George Potter who predeceased her November 12, 2005. She is survived by sons, Gary (Kathy) Potter of Normandy, TN, Robert (Betty Jo) Potter of Canisteo, Edward Potter of PA, George (Patricia) Potter, Jr. of Fairbanks, AK, Earl (Rebecca) Potter of South Canisteo, Chad (Linda) Potter of Hornell and Wayne Potter of Hornell, daughters, Virginia (David) Smith of Cameron, Leisa Erick of Cameron Mills, Kimberly (Chad) Landon of Hornell and Nichole (Michael) Miller of Hornell, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Alberta was predeceased by a daughter Louisa Cratsley, grandson, Duane Erick, a sister, Margaret Wormley and brothers, William and Francis Rice. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 4, 2026 from noon-2 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place following calling hours at 2:00 pm.
