Obituary of Lois I. Warriner

CANISTEO: Lois I. Warriner, 94, of Ste. Rte. 248 passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a very brief illness.
Lois was born August 9, 1931 in the town of Canisteo to the late Lyle and Etta (Wood) Bettinger. On August 14, 1949 in Canisteo, she married Edmond R. Warriner who predeceased her in April of 2025, just shy of 76 years of marriage.
Lois was a lifelong resident of the Canisteo Valley where she graduated from Canisteo Central School. After graduation she was the secretary for the former Pea Vinery at Willow Bend in Canisteo. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at the former Sonyea Mental Facility and was a cashier at the former Acme Grocery Store in Canisteo.
Lois and Edmond moved their family to Silver Lake both working at Camp Ashbury for two years where Lois was head cook for the entire camp. Returning to Canisteo, she worked at the former Gardner’s Clothing Store on Main St. and retired as a book keeper in accounting for the village of Canisteo.
She was a member of the Canisteo First United Methodist Church for 70 plus years and was active in the Stephens/Grey Class and former Amana Ladies Group for several years.
Lois enjoyed canning, baking, being a farmer’s wife and homemaker and collecting anything to do with cardinals.
Survivors include a daughter Barbara (James) Graham of Romulus, sons Carl (Lisa) Warriner of Hornell and Dean (Shelly) Warriner of Canisteo, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her late husband, she was predeceased by a daughter Patricia Warriner, great grandson Isaac Warriner, two brothers, Robert and Charles Bettinger.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm Saturday, January 3rd, at the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will take place at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in Bennetts Creek Cemetery in the town of Greenwood.
