Obituary of Carol Louise Hammond

CANISTEO: Carol Louise Hammond entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 14, 2026. She was born on March 20, 1939 in Canisteo, to the late Harvey and Louise (Roe) VanOrman and graduated from Jasper Central School and the Hornell Business School. She was a school secretary and later the District Clerk at Canisteo Central school until her retirement in 2008 and also served as the secretary/treasurer for Gospel Tabernacle for over 40 years. Carol loved spending time with her family, going on adventures with her siblings, watching her grandchildren’s school events, traveling to the beach and watching the Yankees. In addition to her husband Murlin Hammond of Canisteo, she is survived by a daughter Janine (Joseph) Archer of Denham Springs, LA, sons Tim (Sharyl) Hammond of Hornell, Brian (MaryLynn) Hammond of Cranberry, Pa. and Michael Hammond of Bowling Green, KY, ten wonderful grandchildren, Alyssa, Andrew, Emily and Erica Hammond, Alexis, Ainsley and Haley Archer, Madyson, Desiree and Brooke Hammond and 7 great grandchildren. Carol is also survived by three brothers, Larry (Carole) VanOrman of Hickory, NC. Louis and Gary VanOrman of Rochester and a sister Carla Thomas of High Point, NC. The family will receive friends Friday, February 20, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo where a funeral will take place immediately following calling hours at 3:00 pm Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery.
