Obituary of Elwood E. Blanc

RATHBONE: Elwood E. “Woody” Blanc, 69, of Cty. Rte. 21 passed away April 3, 2026 at his home following a brief illness. Elwood, who was better known as “Woody” was born June 3, 1956 in Canton, Ohio to the late Elwood E. Blanc, Sr. and Beulah Kovac. He and his wife, the former Carol Barkley, moved to the Rathbone area in 1984 where he was a self-employed contractor in the area for several years. Everywhere Woody went, was filled with laughs and sometimes, heated discussions on worldly events or just life in general. No matter how the discussions went, they always ended with a smoke and a good laugh. Woody was very passionate about his family and how he wanted to live his life, no matter the ridicule or whispers around town about what was happening around his place. He is survived by his wife Carol Blanc of Rathbone, sisters Georgeann and Marina, sons, Micah Blanc (Michaelia Townsend) of Addison, Elwood E. (Jessica) Blanc, III of Pacolet, SC, daughters, Sheleen (Frank) Buchanan of Florida, Jolene Blanc (Richard Towery) of Spartanburg, SC and Fauna (Zackery) Gardiner of Mitchellsville, 15 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Woody was predeceased by a sister Theresa Armstrong and a brother Manuel Fontes. There will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
