GREENWOOD: Karen L. Hooker, 72, of Cty. Rte. 60 passed away peacefully and comfortably Sunday evening, April 12, 2026, surrounded by the love and care of her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Karen was born August 6, 1953, in Hornell to the late Clayton and Rachel (Teribury) Holt. She was a graduate of Greenwood Central School and lifelong resident of Greenwood.
She worked in payroll, staffing and logistics for several area businesses - Byrne Dairy in Hornell, Hatch Enterprises in Canisteo, Northern Lights Candles in Wellsville, Adelphia Communications Corporation in Coudersport, and Southern Tier Express (STX) in Andover.
Devoted to her family, community and faith, Karen was an active member of the Greenwood Library and Historical Society, a volunteer at the Greenwood Food Bank and Catholic Charities, and a congregant of the Community of Christ Church in Greenwood.
Always thinking of others, her caring character and enthusiasm for the community showed and will endure as an initiator and one of the founding organizers of the Town of Greenwood's GIVE BACK Program. For her commitment and dedication, she was chosen as Greenwood’s Citizen of the Year in 2024.
She is survived by two sons, Patrick (Nicole) Hooker of Greenwood, Jesse (Mariko) Hooker of California, and daughter Bobbi Jo Hooker-Haley of Hornell. She is also survived by a sister Debra (Raymond) Vallance of Florida and a brother Larry (Jeanie) Dieterman of Indiana, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents Karen was predeceased by a brother Harley Holt.
At Karen’s request there will be no services. Final interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are in care of the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo.
