Obituary of Patrick Michael McCaslin

Please share a memory of Patrick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patrick “Pat” Michael McCaslin September 29, 1959 – April 28, 2026 Patrick “Pat” Michael McCaslin, 66, passed away on April 28, 2026. Born on September 29, 1959, Pat spent most of his life in Woodhull, New York, and several years in Elmira, New York, where he met the love of his life, his loyal and devoted wife, Karen McCaslin. Together, they shared 30 years of marriage. In his younger years, Patrick served briefly in the military, where he was able to jump out of planes. He carried that experience with quiet pride and commemorated that time with a tattoo he wore on his arm—a lasting symbol of his bravery and adventurous spirit. Pat was a true jack of all trades, known for his skill, work ethic, and willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Over the years, he worked in construction, as a trusted and fair-priced mechanic, an impressive farm hand, roofer, painter, and more. There wasn’t a job he wouldn’t take on, and he found genuine joy in helping others through his work. He will be remembered as kind, funny, stubborn, loving, and endlessly generous with his time. Pat often placed the needs of others before his own, living a life defined by selflessness. He took great pride in sharing his knowledge, always ready to teach and guide, leaving behind lessons that will live on in those he loved. Pat was happiest when he was busy tinkering around the property, starting his days early, and making the most of every moment. He had a deep love for growing vegetables and flowers, taking pride in what he could nurture with his own hands. To him, peace was simple: a beer in his hand, country music playing on the radio, and the presence of family and friends nearby. Pat was predeceased by his father, Chester H. McCaslin; his brother, Chester R. McCaslin; his sister, Penny Shedd; and his niece, Jennifer S. Bradford. He is survived by his mother, Rosanna McCaslin; his siblings, David McCaslin, Karen Pearl, Robynn (Wendell), Kenneth (Vera) McCaslin, Brian McCaslin, and Daniel (Betty) McCaslin; as well as many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his children, Derek (Brittany) Ribble, Tonya Kagel, and Danielle (Joe) Lurcock, along with several grandchildren. In addition, Pat is deeply cherished by the family he chose and devoted himself to: Helen E. Westmiller, Erick L. Wandell, Shawn R. DeProspero, and Donald S. Westmiller. He became their father not by birth, but by love, commitment, and the life he built with them over the years. To his grandchildren—Julianna Westmiller, Hailey Wandell, T’kai Baptist, Aidan Westmiller, Erick Wandell, Casarra Baker, Evan Westmiller, and Anthony Wandell—he was simply “Grandpa,” the only one they ever knew. His legacy continues with a great-grandchild on the way. Pat will be deeply missed, but his words and wisdom will live on in those who knew and loved him. Whether reminding us to “think about this logically,” encouraging us to “get ’er done,” accepting life with “it is what it is,” or warmly telling others, “don’t be a stranger,” his voice will forever echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind. In accordance with his wishes, Pat will be cremated, and no formal services will be held. A celebration of life will be shared on Saturday, May 2nd, from 3:30pm – 7:00pm at the Woodhull Town Hall, with family and friends, where stories, laughter, and memories of Pat’s life will be remembered.
