Obituary of Kenneth Elwood Cunningham

Kenneth Elwood Cunningham, 78, of Dillsburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA surrounded by his loving family. Ken was born in Corning, NY on January 5, 1945, the son of the late Elwood Kenneth and Hazel May (Mosher) Cunningham. He attended Addison Central School. After leaving high school, Ken enlisted in the US Army, serving from 1962 to 1968. On February 10, 1972, Ken and the former Mary Catherine Wright were married in Addison, NY. Mary preceded him in death on March 4, 2008. Ken was a railroader, working for Conrail / Norfolk Southern Railroads as an engineer and foreman. He began his career at Gang Mills, NY and later transferred to Enola, PA, making his home in Dillsburg. Ken was a member of the VFW as well as the American Legion. He loved Corvettes, being a member of the Cumberland County Corvette Club. As a sports fan, Ken enjoyed NASCAR, being a fan of Bill Elliott, rooted for the University of Michigan college football and the Pittsburg Steelers in the NFL. Surviving are Ken’s children, Kenneth Michael (Christy) Cunningham of Battle Creek, MI, Kevin Cunningham of Pittson, PA, Kendrea (Larry) Farrell of Peach Bottom, PA and Kami Cunningham of Dillsburg, PA, step children, Julie (Ted) Sample of Wilmington, NC and Gary (Brenda) Bettinger of Central Square, NY, 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, siblings, Marge (Doug) Myers of Addison, NY, David Cunningham of Addison and Clarence (Charlotte) Cunningham of Tappahannock, VA along with several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Thursday, October 19 from 6 to 8 pm and again on Friday from 9 to 11 am at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Ken would appreciate casual attire as that would be the dress that he was most comfortable in. A private graveside service for family will follow in Addison Rural Cemetery, Addison, NY.
