CHEEKTOWAGA/BATH: Richard C. Freeman, 88, formerly of Cheektowaga, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday (August 24, 2012) at the Steuben County Healthcare Facility in Bath where he had resided since 2008. Richard was born May 8, 1924 in Buffalo to Roy G. and Genevieve H. (Rich) Freeman. He married Marion H. Rogers in June of 1951 who survives and resides in Bath. He was predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and David Schwendy. Richard was a deliveryman for the Winchester Eye Glass Mfg. Company in Buffalo. He was a very active member of the Chapel at Cross Point where he was an usher for many years. Being afflicted with cerebral palsy, he never let his affliction affect his life and his love for family, friends and the people around him. In addition to his wife Marion of Bath, he is survived by a grandson Steve (Bethany) Schwendy of Baltimore, MD., granddaughter: Pamela (TJ) Murphy of Walnut Creek, California, and his great grand children Audra, Christian and Andrew Schwendy. Richard is also survived by four nephews: Bruce (Peggy) Cornell of Avoca, Carlton (Mary) Cornell and Rodney (Rose Marie) Cornell of Rochester and Hugh (Bonnie) Cornell of Jacksonville, FL. Funeral and committal services will take place Thursday at 6:00 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, with Pastor Daniel Pickering officiating. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in North Tonawanda. Memorial contributions may be made to the Steuben County Healthcare Facility's Activity Center, 7009 Rumsey St. Ext., Bath, N.Y. 14810.
