Obituary of Alice Nielsen Lawson

Alice Nielsen Lawson, 91, of Loper Road, Addison, passed away at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell early Monday morning, September 3, 2012, after becoming ill at home. Born in Pittstown, New Jersey on August 8, 1921, Alice was the daughter of Maurice and Marie Hansen Nielsen. On September 30, 1936, she and Walter W. Lawson were married in Elkton, MD. They made their home together for many years in New Jersey and in 1978 they left South Bound Brook, NJ to make their home in Rathbone. Walt preceded Alice in death on May 11, 2009. Alice was a homemaker and treasured her time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, singing, traveling and reading. Alice was also a poet who wrote for the delight of her family and her own journalizing. Stock car racing is a major family interest, and Alice fully enjoyed her husband's, son's and grandsons' racing involvement. Besides her husband Walt, Alice was predeceased by her brothers, Karl, Howard and Richard and her sister, Marie. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Walter R. (Lucille) Lawson of Greenwood Lake, NY; Raymond (Mary Ann) Lawson of Addison and Donald (Joyce) Lawson of Addison; her daughters, Rev. Virginia Lawson of Syracuse and Marcy Lawson Ketrow of Addison, her grandchildren, David (Alice) Lawson, Debbie (Shawn) Doughtry, Piet-Andre Hansel, Adrien-Alice Hansel (Jess Leader), Kathy (Rich) Cilino, Raymond J. (Julie) Lawson, Donald (Jessica) Lawson, Michelle Lawson, Jason Ketrow (Krista Ammeren) and Melissa Ketrow, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Service: At the Convenience of the Family Private Family Memorial Service
