CANISTEO: Wilda V. Vanderhoef, 100, of 27 Orchard St. passed away Saturday morning March 14, at St. James Mercy Hospital, following a brief illness, just one day short of her 101st birthday. Born March 15, 1919, in the Monroe Township of Bradford County, Pa. she was the daughter of Willis Farnsworth and Nellie Gibson Hamilton. On May 28, 1959 she married the former Otis Edwin “Ed” Vanderhoef, who predeceased her in 1964. Wilda resided in Canisteo for 57 years and worked at various businesses throughout the Canisteo Valley, as well as at Corning Glass Works, Birds Eye Foods in Avon and for 10 years at the former Westinghouse plant in Bath. She retired from the Marion-Rohr company in 1986. Surviving are her daughter, Bonnie Strope, and a son, David A. Vanderhoef, both of Canisteo. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Debra (Steven) Jakobi of Alfred Station, Rebecca Seger of Canisteo, William Strope of Rochester and Molly Margarum of Hornell; 5 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Frederick Hamilton, and a son, Gary Margarum. She is remembered and cherished as a loving parent, and for her willingness and ability to take care of her extended family. There will be no calling hours or memorial service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
