Obituary of Beverly S. Kemp

HORNELL: Beverly S. Kemp, 87, of Riverbend Apartments passed away Saturday morning March 21, at her home surrounded by the comfort and care of her family. Beverly was born November 15, 1932 in Hornell to the late George and Mabel (Doty) Stage. On July 2, 1955 in Canisteo she married Howard Kemp who predeceased her in September 1982. Beverly was a life-long resident of the Canisteo Valley and had worked at various business throughout Hornell to include the former Corbin’s Manufacturing, former K-Mart and Big N Plazas and Loohn’s Cleaners. She also worked for her daughter Ella at the former HO’s Restaurant on Main St. in Hornell. Her last position was working the Grandparent Program at the Bryant School where she had a very large “extended” family of children that gave her great joy and who she loved very much. Beverly also enjoyed an adventure. A few of her greatest thrills were an airplane and helicopter ride along with a few cruises and trips to Myrtle Beach. She was a big John Wayne admirer, country music fan, loved to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and play cards with family and friends. Beverly was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Hornell where she was very active in church functions. Survivors include a son Howard (Theresa) Kemp, Jr. of Hornell, three daughters, Ella K. (Daniel) Overton of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kimberly (Donald) Smith of Canisteo and Christie Kemp of Wilmington, N.C. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lois Stage of Jasper, 18 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Beverly was predeceased by a son Lloyd Kemp, Granddaughter; Elaine McCumiskey/Liddell and 11 brothers and sisters. There will be no public calling hours. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Jasper Cemetery, Jasper, N.Y. Memorial contributions in Beverly’s name may be made to the donor’s choice.

Due to the current health crisis, there will be no public visitation or services at this time. A public memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
