Donald E. Rude, 75, of 3820 Cty. Rte. 82, Woodhull (Town of Troupsburg), passed away on Tuesday morning, September 4, 2012 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Don was born in North Hornell, NY on March 21, 1937, the son of the late Elwood J. and Ruea S. Friends Rude. He and Dolores M. Benson were married on August 30, 1957 in Troupsburg. Dolores preceded him in death on September 10, 2009. As a young man Don operated the family farm with his father and Dolores and worked the farm until 1978 soon after the sudden death of his father. He worked for the Woodhull Cemetery Association for many years as a caretaker. He was presently the sexton of Mt. Hope Cemetery in Troupsburg. Along the way he assisted Dolores in managing the Old Mill Caf� in Woodhull. Don was a long time member of the Troupsburg Baptist Church where he was a Deacon of the church. His Bible was always nearby him wherever he was. He is a life member of the Woodhull Fire Department, having joined in 1992 and had been a very active fire policeman. He was also a recent recipient of the annual Citizen of the Year Award in Troupsburg. Surviving are his daughters, Debra (Fred) Weaver of Stevens, PA, Charlene (Ken) Perry of Summerville, SC and Marlene Waters of Monroe, Ohio, his sons, Michael (Kathleen) Rude and Andrew Rude, both of Woodhull, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, his brother, Karl (Mary) Rude of Sayre, PA and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Friday, Sept. 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 AM at the Troupsburg Baptist Church. Revs. Gary Jones and Larry Adee will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Troupsburg. Memorials in Don's name may be made to the Troupsburg Baptist Church.
