CANISTEO: Maxine L. Banker, 95, formerly of Pine St. passed away Tuesday (Sept. 11, 2012) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. Maxine was born February 9, 1917, in Canisteo to Claude H. and Ethel L. (McDuffee) Wambold. On August 1, 1955 in Canisteo, she married Stanley M. Banker who survives and is a resident of Hornell Gardens. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Jack Wambold and one sister, Doris Wambold. Maxine was a lifelong resident of Canisteo and was a graduate of the former Canisteo Academy. She was a secretary for Canisteo Central School District, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo, Canisteo Order of Eastern Star, a member of the "Stichery" lady's group and Junior Shakespeare Group. In addition to her husband of 57 years, Stanley Banker, Maxine is survived by two sons: David (Nancy) Banker of Albany and Richard (Nancy) Banker of Canisteo. Two granddaughters Caitlan (Paul) Congdon and Brianna (Anthony) Westbrook and three great granddaughters Leigha, Emmalee and Zoey. The family will receive friends from 6-7 PM Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hrs. at 7 PM. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 37 Greenwood St., Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
