Obituary of Bethel L.Brown

CANISTEO: Bethel L. Brown, 72, of Catatunk Rd. passed away unexpectedly Sunday (Oct. 23, 2011) at St. James Mercy Hospital after being stricken ill at home. Bethel was born May 6, 1939 in Hornell to Clyde B. and Georgetta "Peggy" (Stage) Quick. On November 23, 1959 in Greenville, MS, she married Richard Brown who survives. She was predeceased by her mother in June of 2007, a brother Gerald Quick and a sister, Geraldine Quick. Bethel was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1957 and had 35 years service representing Avon Products and was recipient of several Avon Presidential Awards. She was a member of the Hornell Christian Women's Club, Canisteo Valley Church of Christian Fellowship and had also attended the Adrian Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Canisteo Valley Lady Bugs. Bethel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who's Christian faith and love for her family and friends was evident in her everyday walk with her Lord. Whether it was a consoling hand, an attentive ear or loving arms, Bethel's caring heart was a blessing from above. In addition to her husband Richard Brown of Canisteo, she is survived by her father Clyde Quick of Canisteo, her five sons: Willis (Bonny) Brown of Canisteo, Richard Brown of Hornell, Kenneth (Diane) Brown and Michael (Carla) Brown both of Canisteo and Ray (Wendy) Brown of Penfield. A special niece Peggy (Gale) Miles of Canisteo, three brothers: Daniel (Judy) Quick, Kenneth (Nancy) Quick and Robert "Otis" (Laura) Quick all of Canisteo and two sisters: Joyce (Robert) Sharp and Shirley (William) McCourt all of Canisteo. 13 grand children, 6 great grand children and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where a funeral service will take place Thursday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Archie Smith officiating. Committal service and burial will be in the Bennetts Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bethel Brown's name may be made to either the Hornell Christian Women's Club, c/o of Patricia Emerson, 1190 Cty.
