Please share a memory of Henry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Henry M. McConnell, 84, of Round Lake Road, Savona, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at home in the presence of his loving family. Born in Tuscarora, NY on June 21, 1936, Henry was the son of the late Wilford and Bessie Crumb McConnell. He attended school in Wellsboro, PA. Soon after leaving school, Henry enlisted in the US Air Force, serving from 1954 to 1958. On September 9, 1959, he married the former Emma Jean Farr in Lawrenceville, Pa.. Henry and Jean settled on Missouri where Henry worked as a carpenter. After living there for 5 years, they moved back east and settled in Tioga, Pa. From their home there, they opened a trucking firm and operated several tractor trailers of which Henry and Jean were both drivers. They often hauled beer for the Genesee Brewing Company in Rochester which was quite appropriate considering Henry’s taste for their Genny Crème Ale. He and Jean were often said to have gone to the brewery to get loaded. In 1981 they purchased their farm on Round Lake Road in Savona where they raised polled Hereford cattle. Henry also enjoyed his Percheron draft horses and had a great love for old 2 cylinder John Deere tractors. Henry was a member of the Campbell American Legion Post. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Emma Jean McConnell at home, his children and their spouses, Robert and Sue McConnell of Savona, Patricia and Jeff Horton of Campbell, Laurie and Dan Benjamin of Corning and Michael McConnell and Lori Willis of Waverly, his grandchildren, Taylor McConnell, Jennifer Altemose, Justin Horton, Troy Brimmer, Monique Brimmer, Samuel McConnell and Madeline McConnell, his great grandchildren, Aubrey, Nova, Riley and Bentley, his siblings, Beatrice Stevens of Florida, Dot Richardson of Florida, Gary McConnell of Georgia and Phillip McConnell of Elmira as well as several nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by his grandson, John Rogers, his brothers, Warren McConnell, Lawrence McConnell and Louis McConnell and his sister, Julia Knapp. In keeping with Henry’s wishes, there will be no public services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest in Tioga Memorial Gardens in Mansfield, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Steuben County 4-H Program, 20 East Morris St., Bath, NY 14810.
