Obituary of David J. Whitfield

David J. Whitfield, 66, of Taylor Health Care Center, Bath, NY, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Born in Queens, NY, on September 6, 1954, David was the son of the late Cyril D. and Joyce K. (Wright) Whitfield. He was a 1972 graduate of East Islip High School on Long Island, NY. David continued his education at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, VA, earning a degree in communications. David enjoyed writing, reading, and editing enough to make it a career. He worked with students at the collegiate level, assisting them with writing and editing. Outside of work, he continued his love of writing, often creating fictional short stories inspired by his life. His love for reading and writing gave him the incredible ability to tell the best stories. His love of music led him to part-time work as a DJ at a local radio station in Roanoke, VA. David is survived by his children, Erica Whitfield of Virginia Beach, VA and Richard Whitfield (Samantha Calkins) of Woodhull, NY, his sister, Linda Whitfield of Bath, NY, his brother Michael (Angela) Whitfield of Cohoes, NY, and several nieces and nephews. There will be no services at this time. The family will organize a Celebration of Life to honor David in the future.
