Obituary of Daniel E. Gurnsey

Daniel E. Gurnsey, 89, of Hibbard Road, Addison, NY, passed away at home on Sunday, January 10, 2021 following a long illness. Daniel was born in Corning, NY on July 31, 1931, the son of Howard and Stella Gurnsey. He attended Addison school. As many of his era, Daniel left school to assist with work on the family farm. When of age, he enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and served from 1951 to 1955. He took great pride in his military service. On May 1, 1955, he married the former Faye B. Gosper in Addison. Faye preceded him in death on October 20, 2014. Daniel spent much of his life working as a self employed truck driver. He had also worked briefly at the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post, operated a dairy farm and been a union carpenter. Daniel is survived by his children, Vickie Kamataris of Lawrenceville, David Gurnsey of Wellsboro and Mark (Deb) Gurnsey of Addison, his grandchildren, Jill Trimble, Allison Gurnsey, Dan Cain, Matt Ayers, Jessica VanWay and Nathaniel Gurnsey, 9 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his best buddy and constant loving companion, Katie the Corgi dog. Besides his wife Faye, Daniel was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Stella Gurnsey and his siblings, Winona Archer, Derold Gurnsey and Gayle Carr. A private graveside service will be held at Bath National Cemetery in Bath where Daniel will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Faye. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
