ANDOVER/JASPER: RICHARD NYE (Dick), born November 3, 1933, passed away Tuesday (March 9, 2021) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was the son of Clifford O. Nye and Florence Slater Nye. Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting mugs and guns, and spending time with his family. In his youth he enjoyed working on his family farm, his true passion. He worked for the Ingersoll-Rand Co. as a machine tester for 25 years. He worked part time for his father’s business, Ford and Peckham and as a bartender for the American Legion in Greenwood. Dick and his wife, Louise, owned Nye’s Grocery in Greenwood for 14 years. In his retirement years he delivered meals on wheels, provided transportation for the Amish community, and performed maintenance for the Jasper Town Hall and Cemetery Association. Dick was a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge, Greenwood Fire Department and American Legion. Surviving are his daughters; Flo (James) Feenaughty, Darla (Alan) Burchard, Lucinda (Keelan) Croston; son Ricky (Mary) Nye; eight grandchildren – Crystal, Gerald, Miranda, Thomas, Jason, Joshua, Ritchie, Logan; six great-grandchildren – Brandon, Todd, Valerie, Shane, Lucas, John-Phillip, Lily, Ila, Jacob; and great-great-granddaughter Octavia. His brothers, Dennis and Douglas Nye. Niece, Anita; Nephews, Fred (Denise) Nye; Jeff Nye; Steve and John Jones. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Louise; his parents Clifford and Florence Nye; sister, Phyllis; and granddaughter, Mary Jane Chapman. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
