Obituary of Gertrude J. Klindt

CANISTEO: Gertrude J. Klindt, 81, of Cty. Rte. 31 Milwaukee Rd. passed away peacefully Saturday evening July 3, 2021 at her home surrounded by the love and care of her daughters, after an extended illness. Gertrude was born January 9, 1940, in Newark, N.J. to Stephen and Gertrude (Olsheski) Kropilak. On August 1, 1959 in Newark, N.J. She married Frederick A. Klindt, Sr. who predeceased her in October of 2002. Gertrude had been employed as a secretary and assistant registrar at Alfred University where she helped with the registration of incoming college students. After retirement, she continued to keep herself busy by working part time at McDonalds up to the age of 75. Her interest in her family history kept her busy with genealogy and she never missed sending a birthday card or holiday card to a family member or friend. She enjoyed ceramic painting and was an avid reader of all sorts. As with any mother, she enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren and welcomed them anytime. Gertrude is survived by two daughters, Valerie Klindt of Naples and Karen Klindt of Rochester, one son Frederick A. (Mary) Klindt, Jr. of Cohocton, two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Kelsey Klindt, one sister, Rita (Edward) Pooters of Earlton, N.Y. and one brother, Anthony Kropilak (Curtis Royal) of FL. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, George, Eugene, Stephen and Thomas Kropilak and four sisters, Clara Schmitz, Agatha Reevie, Mary Honegger and Theresa Lutz. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Saturday, July 10th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 6:00 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fremont. Memorial contributions in Gertrude’s name may be made to the Jasper Ambulance, Jasper, N.Y. 14855.
