Grant E. Foster, 95, of Olds Road, Jasper, NY, passed into the loving hands of our Lord from home on Monday, July 12, 2021 surrounded by loving family. Born in Jasper on December 22, 1925, Grant was the son of the late Archie D. and Blanche E. (Heckman) Foster. A lifelong resident of Jasper, Grant was a graduate of Jasper Central School. On December 18, 1948, Grant married the former Jenette L. Simpson. Jenette preceded him in death on August 29, 2003. Grant’s life work was the operation of his dairy farm in Jasper where he and Jenette raised their five children. They were both very devoted members of the South Canisteo United Methodist Church where Grant was a member for 72 years as well as the church lay leader. He served as an assessor for the Town of Jasper for many years as well as being a longtime caretaker of the Jasper Cemetery. Grant loved to hunt and the time spent with family in their hunting adventures. He was a very avid sports fan of both professional sports as well as rooting for his own family at their high school sporting events. Grant is survived by his children, Marlene and Robert Paige of Panama City, FL, Bruce Foster (Sandy Mattison) of Troupsburg, Melinda and Ed VanSkiver of Jasper, Bryce and Rebecca Foster of Bath and Colleen and Raymond White of North Pole, Alaska, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, his siblings, Eva Irvine of Jasper, Joyce VanSkiver of Canisteo, Ruth (Morris) Schenck of Greenwood and Jerry (Sara Lee) Foster of Painted Post and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Jenette, Grant was predeceased by his grandson, Jeremy Ryan White on April 27, 2001 and his sisters and brothers in law, June & Ray Allegar, Norva and Dick Marsh, Beatrice and George Welty, Helen and Wayne Warriner, Eleanor and John Fichter, Bob Irvine and Arlee VanSkiver. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, July 16 at 1 pm in Jasper Cemetery with Grant’s nephew, Rev. Vaughn VanSkiver officiating. Burial will follow there. Memorials in Grant’s name are suggested for the South Canisteo United Methodist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull, NY.
