CANISTEO: Betty L. Zeltwanger, 95, formerly of Maple St. passed away Tuesday morning, July 13, 2021, at Elderwood at Hornell where she had been a resident since 2019. Betty was born May 9, 1926 in Corry, Pa. to Harry and Onalyn (Towsend) Leilous. On October 24, 1948 in the First Presbyterian Church in Canisteo, she married Clyde “Pete” Zeltwanger who predeceased her in October of 1998. She was also predeceased by two daughters, Joann M. “Jody” Dehn (April 2013) and Donna VanOrman (Arpil 2001). Betty was a graduate of Belmont High School class of 1944. She had worked as a bank teller at the former Steuben Trust Bank in Hornell for 5 years and the former First State Bank branch office in Greenwood for 25 years. She had also worked at the N.Y.S. Troopers barracks in Bath. Betty was a devoted member of the Hornell Maple City Lions Club and the first women to join the club where she held the office of treasurer for 7 years. In her spare time she enjoyed doing many types of crafts, painting, knitting and crocheting. She is survived by one son Thomas Zeltwanger of Canisteo, two grandchildren, Jennifer (Christopher) Stell of Palmyra, Shane (Shana) Dehn of Walworth, four great-grandchildren, Peyton and Adaline Stell, Landon and Jordyn Dehn, and her son-in-law Kenneth Dehn of Macedon. The family will receive friends from Noon-2 pm Saturday, July 17th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to the Maple City Lions Club, P.O. Box 271, Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
