Obituary of Joseph D. Bouton

Joseph D. Bouton, 82, was the tall, gentle, generous farmer that everyone went to for help in Hedgesville, NY. He passed away after a diagnosis of acute leukemia three weeks after his beloved wife Ann had passed away from her long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Joe was born in Hornell, NY on October 28, 1938, the son of the late James and Helena (Sherwood) Bouton. He attended Jasper Central School and then attended Heavy Equipment school in North Carolina. With schooling complete, he then had time to focus on his lifelong passions of farming and family. He was one of the rare persons that everyone aspires to be…simply happy, caring, and generous. Everyone who crossed his path left feeling more at ease. Joe was predeceased by this wife of 57 years, Ann (Nelson) Bouton, and his brothers George and Edward Bouton. He is survived by his daughter Marie (Patrick) Geraghty, his sons William (Lora) Bouton and James (Josephine) Bouton, his grandchildren Joseph and Nicholas Geraghty, Benjamin, Madalyn, Jessie, and Cash Bouton. His sisters-in-law Dorothy Bouton and Mary Ellen (Gary) Yantz, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank those who helped Joe and Ann in their final days and a special thank you to Mary Ellen and Gary Yantz for all their help to get us through the past few months. Thankyou to Jen and The Bampa’s House volunteers for their kind and compassionate care for Joe during his final days. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 11 from 5 to 6pm at the Woodhull Community Church, West Main St., Woodhull, NY. A memorial service will follow there at 6PM with Rev.
