William R. Bliss, 71, of 1952 State Route 36, Jasper, NY, passed away Monday, November 5th 2012 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY unexpectedly. Born in Troupsburg, August 29, 1941, he was the son of Melvin D. and Mildred Harrington Bliss. A graduate of Troupsburg Central School, he attended Delhi State College. He was employed 10 years by the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, was a dairy farmer for over 20 years, he was the former proprietor of Atkins Holly Farms Store and JT Trading Post in Troupsburg. He was also an accomplished carpenter. An avid guitar player and singer, he played in a country, blue grass band known as Bill and His Gang. He married Dolores A. Atkins July 9th 1960. She survives. Also surviving are two sons and daughters in law, Aaron and Annette Bliss of Mechanicville, NY and William R. Bliss Jr. and Gina Bliss of Bergen, NY., daughter and son in law, Barbara and Mark Leach of Jasper, NY, sisters, Betty Wheaton of Mt. Morris, NY, Audrey (Michael) Stepanian of Churchville, NY, Judy (Joe) Ridgway of Syracuse, NY and Bonnie (Dennis) Cady of Montour Falls, NY, brothers, Arling (Jeanine) Bliss of Troupsburg, Melvin D. (Rose) Bliss of Lancaster, PA and Alan (Kathy) Bliss of Hornell, NY, 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He is preceded in death by brothers, Larry, Earl and Roy Bliss. Friends may call Thursday, November 8th 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY, where funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 AM. The Rev. Gregory Brotzman will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Troupsburg, NY. Memorials will be received for the J-T Sports Boosters Club, c/o Nancy Wyant, Jasper, NY 14855.
