Obituary of Jeannette C. Calkins

Jeanette Eleanor “Jan” Canfield-Calkins was born on January 22, 1941 in Montour Falls, NY to Mr. and Mrs. Harold and Frances Canfield.
Her family moved to Winter Park, FL where Jan graduated from Edgewater High School in 1959. Jan became employed at a Gas Company in Orlando, FL. In 1963, she later moved to Florence, SC where her daughter was born, Denise J. Oakley. Jan and Denise lived in Florence where Jan was a transcriptionist at McLeod Hospital. Later, Jan and Denise moved to Spartanburg, SC where Jan really enjoyed her employment at the Women’s Clinic working under Dr. Cathcart.
In 1973 they moved to Hornell, NY to be closer to Jan’s family, where Jan was a secretary at a Nursing School. Jan later became the administrative assistant at Bethesda Hospital for 9 years, during which time she met the love of her life, Gary L. Calkins of Woodhull, NY. They were married in 1980.
Jan retired as Administrative Assistant from Corning Hospital Founders Pavilion in 2007 after 20 years of service.
Jan peacefully went home to be with our lord and Friday, November 5, 2021.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Calkins, 3 stepchildren, Greg, Julie and Nancy, 14 grandchildren, her daughter, Denise Oakley, 2 sisters, Marion Holley and Robin Cox and 1 brother, Dan O’Leary.
Jan’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 13 commencing at 11 am at the Bennett’s Creek Bible Church, 3740 St. Rte. 248, Greenwood, NY. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery, Woodhull, NY.

Arrangements are under the direction of the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home in Woodhull.
