Floyd A. Taft, 84, of County Route 82, Woodhull, (Town of Troupsburg), passed away at home on Friday, November 12, 2021. Born in the Town of Orange, Schuyler County, NY on September 7, 1937, Floyd was a son of the late Lawrence E. and Gladys B. (Impson) Taft. He attended school in Monterey. After leaving school, he worked with his father on his dairy farm in Woodhull. On February 9, 1957, he and the former Marguerite A. English were married in Corning. In 1964, Floyd and Marguerite purchased their dairy farm on the Woodhull-Troupsburg Road. They operated their farm until 2018 when they sold their dairy and began raising beef cattle. Floyd always enjoyed the field work involved with farming. He would operate his machinery for hours at a time and love every minute. He was an avid deer hunter and would host large hunting parties on his land year after year. Floyd joined the Woodhull Fire Department in 1956 and served as an active member until 2010 when he was granted life membership. Floyd served as department treasurer for 20 years and was also the Fire Police Captain for many years. He was always very involved with fund raisers in the fire department, especially with chicken barbeques. Floyd is survived by Marguerite, his wife of 64 years, his daughters, Debbie (John) Hobczuk of Horseheads, Barb (Tom) Hulbert of Troupsburg, Darlene Waters of Henrietta, Bonnie Taft of Woodhull and Donna Taft of Woodhull, his grandchildren, Adam Hobczuk, Thomas Hulbert Jr., Ryan Hulbert, Cortney Zuchowski, Kristen Waters and Brett Waters, his great granddaughters, Sara Hulbert, Ryleigh Hulbert, Averie Zuchowski and Harper Waters, his siblings, Richard (Jean) Taft of Addison, Dorothy Watkins of Woodhull, Julia “Judy” Cooney of Addison, Fred (Cindy) Taft of Charlotte, NC, Edith (Robert) Sarviss of Addison and Roger (Joyce) Taft of Cameron, Marguerite’s siblings, Kenneth W. (Mabel) English and Patsy Patterson, both of Woodhull along with many nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Paul Taft, his brothers in law, Eldred Watkins, Louis English and Thomas English and his sister in law, Mary Jane Williams. Friends may call on Tuesday, November 16 from 12 noon to 2 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 2 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested for the Woodhull Fire Department.
