HOWARD: Helen D. Peters, 97, of Nicholson Rd. passed away Tuesday evening, November 30, 2021, at St. James Hospital in Hornell following a brief illness. Helen was born September 12, 1924 in Rockdale, Pa. to the Late Fred and Ida (Bittner) Peter. In 1948, in New Tripoli, Pa. she married Emory Peters who predeceased her in January of 1998. Helen and her late husband Emory had lived the better part of forty years in the Howard area, moving from Pennsylvania in 1978. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed celebrating birthdays, holidays and Sunday dinners with her family. She enjoyed the preparation of food and desserts for her family and her lemon meringue pies were always in demand. Helen’s outside activities included vegetable and floral gardening, hiking with her family, and with her dogs that would go where ever she went and she even did a little hunting. She enjoyed embroidering and in later years her daughter taught her how to cross stitch making many fine pieces for family and friends. She attended the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church and attended several of the church’s senior citizens functions for many years. Helen had a pleasant smile and was a very gracious person who touched everyone she met in a very special way. She is survived by three daughters: Carol (Jim) Poust of Savona, Darlene (Keith) Duke of Walnutport, Pa. and Sharon (Rick) Seratt of Avoca, one sister Lorraine Carom of Alburtis, Pa., 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren (with two on the way), nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Emory Peters, a son David E. Peters, two brothers Alfred and Monroe Peter, two sisters Grace German and Viola McClellan. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm Sunday, December 5th at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, Cty. Rte. 69 in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will follow calling hours at 3:00 pm. Burial will be on Monday, December 6th, at 2 pm, in Union Church Cemetery, Neffs, Pa. Memorial contributions in Helen’s name may be made to the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church Food Bank, 6034 Cty. Rte. 69, Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
