BATH/CANISTEO: Irene Sally Hatch, 84 of Canisteo entered into rest on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath, following a long illness. Irene was born on February 19, 1928 in Hornell, NY, to Ira L. and Helen T. (Casey) Hallett. On January 12, 1945 in Bradford, Pa. she married William M. Hatch to whom she was married to for 58 years until his death in 2003. She was also predeceased by her parents, a sister Pearl Burrow and a brother Neal Hallett. A mother and homemaker, Irene lived in the Canisteo valley with family and friends for most of her life. She enjoyed the country living and spent many hours and trips doing geneology with her sisters. She was a member of the area Canisteo Kahoko's, an avid reader and a member of the DAR. Irene was especially proud of her heritage as a great granddaughter of Nathan Hallett, a Revolutionary War veteran and one of the original settlers of the Canisteo Valley in the early 1790's. Irene is survived by two sons William (Donna) Hatch of Canisteo and Ralph Hatch of Hornell; three daughters DiAnne (Randy) Gleason, Susan VanStine (Kevin Mulhollen) all of Canisteo and Andrea Burch of Alfred Station. She was blessed with many grandchildren: Rich Young, Sara Balliett, Becky Van Fleet, Randee Gleason, Ed VanStine, Jeffrey and Britni Burch, Colin & Caleb Rose and seven great grandchildren: Meghan Roberts, Nicholas, Benjamin & Brayden Young, James Thompkins, Christopher VanFleet, Amelia Balliett. She is also survived by three sisters, Jacquie MacAuley and Shirley Ahrens both of Wellsville and Alice Jean Waehner of Tennessee and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 E Main St., in Canisteo. A private funeral service will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wimodaughsian Free Library, 19 West Main St. Canisteo, NY 14823 or to the Canisteo Fire Dept. c/o Sandy Pierce 35 Main St. Canisteo, NY 14823.
