Obituary of Dorothy S. Margeson

CAMERON: Dorothy S. Margeson, 95, of Cty. Rte. 119 passed away Sunday evening December 5, 2021 at the Steuben Center in Bath. Dorothy was born November 12, 1926 in the town of Cameron to the late Winfred S. and Margaret H. (Reddy) Stuart. On November 10, 1946 in Cameron, she married Eugene “Gene” Margeson who predeceased her in July of 2009. Dorothy was a graduate of Addison High School, and had been a life-long resident of Cameron where she and her husband raised four wonderful children. For 13 years she had worked in the offices of Dr. Auringer and Dr. McFarland in Hornell and had also been employed as a cashier in the Addison Valley School. She eventually retired after another 13 years as a postal clerk for the town of Cameron. Dorothy was a member of the Cameron Christian Center where she held the position as church treasurer. She was a former 4-H leader and a member of the Board of Elections in the town of Cameron. She is survived by two daughters Connie (Robert) Hubbard of Cameron, Debra (Dennis) Butterfield of Alexandria Bay, two sons, Michael (Betty) Margeson of Bath and Scott Margeson of Watertown, one sister Maxine Dartt of Bath, brothers-in-law Walter Bohomey of Cameron and Robert Hawkins of Attica and a sister-in-law Bonnie Stuart, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by a son Stephen Margeson in April of 1961, 9 brothers, Harry, Robert, Roland, Ellis, Kenneth, William, Jack, Tom and Donald Stuart, and 4 sisters, Evelyn Warner, Elizabeth Murphy, Barbara Bohomey and Phyllis Hawkins. The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Sunday, December 12th at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. funeral Home in Canisteo, where a funeral service will take place Monday, December 13th at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Townline Cemetery, Town of Rathbone.
